How to Ensure Optimal Packaging for Safe and Efficient Shipping
This article provides best practices for optimal packaging to ensure shipments are safe, compliant, and cost-effective. It includes guidelines for selecting the right materials, securing packages, and avoiding common mistakes that could result in damage or delays.
Appropriate materials include; foam lined boxes, bubble wrap and fragile stickers.
When it comes to shipping items, it is essential to ensure that the packaging is secure and durable enough to protect the contents during transit and that your package does not get stuck in a conveyer belt. We will not be held liable for incorrectly packed items that get damaged in transit.
Here are some tips on how to best package for shipping:
The first step in packaging for shipping is to select the right materials.
Please use the items below as your packaging guideline :

Please use the following items as your guideline on how to package your parcels.
For standard durable items such as clothing, lace, stuffed toys, etc use TUNL flyer bags or any other waterproof Flyer Bags. Pick a flyer bag that is size appropriate for the product you are shipping.
Feel free to use unbranded flyer bags, that don’t have the branding of other courier companies, or flyer bags of your choice. TUNL flyer bags come in the following sizes
Small Flyer Bags 25cmx35cmx5cm
Medium Flyer Bags 37cmx44cmx5cm
Large Flyer Bags 46cmx60cmx5cm
To minimise waste while packaging, please use the appropriate scissors.
If your package is at risk of breaking or losing shape when things are stacked on top of it please paste Fragile Stickers on top of your package to make sure handlers take extra care of your product (Read item 5).
Make use of a tape measure for bigger products for a more accurate measurement.
Please measure the dimensions of your product only AFTER you have finished packaging, these are the dimensions you will add on the quote page and on the booking platform.
Choose a sturdy box that is the best fit for the package you are sending (If the box is too big or too small for the package this may cause damage to the content inside. Assure that this box is well-sealed. Additionally, choose packing materials such as bubble wrap, foam peanuts, or air pillows to cushion the contents and prevent them from shifting during transit.
- For high-value items, such as ceramics, please use foam lined boxes for the best shipping experience (See image below).

5a. We will not ship any packages without shipping labels (You receive this label after you have booked your package on the TUNL website). Label the box with the shipping address and a return address. This will ensure that the package is delivered to the correct location and can be returned to the sender if necessary. Please only book your shipment after you have packaged your item. The weight and dimensions of your package reflect on this label, if this is incorrect you will be liable to pay a fine.
You may make use of “Fragile Sticker tape” to secure your boxes and packages.
While packing boxes please make use of heavy-duty packaging tape. Use tape to seal the box and prevent it from opening during transit. Additionally, use straps or ties to secure any loose items inside the box.
If you use normal print paper for your labels please use see-through sellotape to secure the label and make it water resistant (See image 5 for Label example)
- We also advise that you utilize clear sellotape anytime you need to secure flyer bags to avoid covering the labels.
For smaller shipments, you use a 30cm ruler to measure your dimensions. Please make sure that all your measurements use the same unit of measure.
Use an electronic scale to accurately weigh your packages (Remember that the weight of your package includes packaging material).
If you are using regular non-stick printing-paper (Image 13) please use Shipping Sleeves to keep your labels dry and legible.
Instead of using normal printing paper, you may make use of waterproof A5 tower stickers, which therefore do not require a Shipping Sleeve.
This is what normal printing paper looks like (Plain paper with no lines or patterns)
Here are the Top 2 packaging Rules you cannot skimp out on :
If the items being shipped are fragile, take extra precautions to protect them. Use extra cushioning materials, such as bubble wrap or foam, and mark the box as fragile to alert handlers to be careful.
Before shipping, make sure to check the weight and dimensions of the box. If the package is too heavy or too large, it may incur additional fees or be rejected by the shipping carrier.
By following these tips, you can ensure that your packages are well-protected during transit and arrive safely at their destination.
