🛡️ How to Prevent Your Packages from Going Missing During Airfreight Transit ✈️📦
Airfreight is fast and efficient, but sometimes packages can go missing in transit. The most common reason is that waybills (shipping labels) fall off during handling. When that happens, a parcel can no longer be automatically tracked or routed correctly.
The good news? There are a few simple steps you can take to reduce the risk of your package getting lost:
✅ 1. Write the Waybill Number on the Box ✍️
- Use a permanent marker to clearly write the waybill number on at least one side of the box.
- This serves as a backup in case the printed waybill falls off or gets damaged.
- It helps the carrier identify and reconnect your parcel with the correct shipment.
✅ 2. Use Unique Stickers or Markings 🏷️✨
- Add unique, recognizable stickers (like stars, arrows, or company logos) to your parcel.
- Use bright-colored tape or markings that make your package stand out from others.
- These visual cues help handlers and warehouse staff quickly identify your package if it becomes separated.
✅ 3. Protect the Waybill with Tape or a Waybill Pouch 📑🔒
- Always secure the waybill so it can’t peel off.
- Either:
- Place it inside a waybill pouch that sticks firmly to the box, or
- Cover the entire waybill with clear tape (ensuring the barcode can still be scanned)
✅ 4. Place a Copy of the Waybill Inside the Box 📄📦
- Print an extra copy of your waybill and slip it inside the package.
- If the outside waybill is lost, carriers can open the box and immediately identify where it should go.
✅ 5. Reinforce the Package 🎁🪢
- Make sure your box is well-sealed with strong packing tape.
- A sturdy package reduces the chance of damage (and waybill loss) during rough handling.
🚨 If Your Package Still Goes Missing
Despite best efforts, issues can sometimes occur. That’s why we recommend adding shipping insurance for peace of mind.
🔗 Start a Claim
- If you paid for Shipping Protection:
You’re covered for eligible losses. Start here → Start a Shipping Protection Claim
- If you didn’t pay for Shipping Protection:
You can still submit a claim with the carrier (e.g., FedEx/UPS), but approval isn’t guaranteed and payouts are at the carrier’s discretion. Start here → Report a Missing Shipment
⏱️ Pro Tip: Please report issues as soon as possible - insurers and carriers often have strict reporting window of 30 days.
