# 🌍 Showing duty-inclusive prices in some countries (Shopify)

# 🌍 Showing duty-inclusive prices in some countries (Shopify)

Some stores build duties into their product prices for certain countries (the EU, say), and charge duties separately everywhere else. To do that, Shopify and TUNL each handle half, and they need to agree.

* **Shopify** sets your product prices for those countries, and tells your customer duties are included.
* **TUNL** sets the shipping rate, and doesn't add duties for those countries.

***
## 1. Set your prices in Shopify

1. In Shopify, go to **Markets** and create a market with the countries you want, e.g. the 27 EU countries and Switzerland. Check the country count.
2. Create a **catalog** for that market and increase prices to cover duties and taxes, e.g. by 30%. This is your estimate. TUNL doesn't calculate it.
3. Turn on **Automatically include new products**.
4. Check a product's price in the catalog preview.

## 2. Show duties as included in Shopify

You need to be the store owner, or have access to Shopify's taxes and duties settings.
1. In **Markets**, open the market.
2. Next to **Taxes and duties**, click **+**.
3. Set **Duties and import tax** to *Collecting*, **Tax display** to *Show as included*, and **Duty display** to *Duties included in price*.
4. Click **Done**, then **Save**.

With **Duties included in price**, Shopify only shows your customer a message that duties are included. It doesn't change their subtotal or total.

## 3. Add a matching shipping zone

1. In **Settings → Shipping and delivery**, add a shipping zone with **the same countries** as your market.
2. Add the TUNL rate to it.
3. Remove those countries from any other zone. A country in two zones can stop rates showing.

## 4. Set the exception in TUNL

1. Go to **Settings → Integrations → Store Integration**, choose your store, then **Duties & taxes**.
2. Set your default for everywhere else, e.g. **Offer your customer the choice of paying at checkout or delivery**.
3. Under **Exceptions**, add the same countries and choose **DDP - Do not charge**.
4. Save, then **Publish to store**.

For those countries, your customer pays shipping only at checkout, and nothing on delivery. We book the shipment DDP, so the duties are billed to your TUNL account when you book.

## 5. Test

1. Make sure your test products have an HS code and country of origin, and that you've set a fallback HS code.
2. In a private or incognito window, check out to an address in one of the countries (e.g. Paris), and to one outside it (e.g. London).
3. Inside the market: product price includes the uplift, and shipping has no duties added. Outside it: duties are shown the way your default says.

## Good to know

* Service names, discounts and handling fees apply in every country. Only the duties and taxes setting can differ by country.
* Shipping options for those countries still end in *\[Duties & Taxes Included]*, because the duties are paid before delivery.
* WooCommerce doesn't have markets and catalogs, so this setup is Shopify only.
