Are you registered for tax in a foreign country?
If you are registered for tax in a foreign country or sell via a marketplace that collects tax from your customers on your behalf, you need to add the relevant tax numbers to your merchant profile. This ensures that carriers process your international orders and billing correctly, preventing double taxation for you or your customers.
How to add foreign tax numbers to your shipments
- Log in to your TUNL dashboard: https://app.tunl.to/
- Click on the Merchant Profile menu item
- Under Use Tax ID, select Yes
- Select your Tax ID Type (e.g., VAT)
- Enter your Tax Identifier Number (e.g. 12345678) and the 2-letter code for the issuing country (e.g., GB for the United Kingdom)
- Click Add Item to add a second tax number (e.g., EORI)
- Click Update Profile to save
Are you shipping with Etsy?
Etsy is an example of a marketplace that collects tax from your customers on your behalf. When a customer residing in Europe places an order via Etsy, Etsy will provide you with their IOSS (Import One-Stop Shop) number. This IOSS number should be added to your merchant profile to prevent your customers from being charged VAT twice.
For more information, see this article from Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/seller-handbook/article/1014946249688
Etsy may provide multiple tax numbers, but not all tax numbers are supported in the merchant profile. If your Etsy tax number is not supported, you can manually add it in the “Invoice Number” field when booking your shipment. This ensures that your tax number will appear on the commercial invoice, which is required by some carriers to process your shipment correctly.
Please make sure the tax number is included on the commercial invoice to avoid any delays or issues with your shipment.
